Hazy Headlights? Quick Fix

Last week, my husband and I picked up a "new to us" car for our sons at college.

Prior to this picture, "Great Deal, 30 day warranty" was written on the windows in white car-dealer paint. We weren't overly excited about driving down the road with the sale details written across the windows, so we were going to wipe it off with the numerous napkins we had left over from McDonald's.

The car dealer came out with a quicker, much simpler solution-- one that honestly, had I not seen it with my own eyes, I'd have not believed it.

Bug spray!!

He sprayed the paint with Cutter Bug spray (not sure if it has to be Cutter or if any bug spray will do) and wiped it off. Cleaned it off in a jif-- without leaving any residue!

Then he showed us how the same bug spray clears away foggy headlight film. There was an older model car on the lot with hazy headlights. He sprayed on some Cutter, then wiped it off. Clean and shiny!

I do love new, easy tricks!

*I do not know what the long term effects would be to finishes and paint, so I would use caution or tape off the painted area. I mean, it is bug spray...

  1. Hi Elizabeth - I read this with interest ... I'd like to get rid of film that seems to sweep across my window-glass frames ... I'll think about it - as you say ... could be a very good tip.

Also I would not want to drive down the road with For Sale or equivalent on the car -

    Cheers .. Hilary

    1. I never thought to use it inside the house. I have a window that turned foggy shortly after it was installed. I will try this on that window and see how it works. Thanks Hilary!!

    1. Good morning :)

I was impressed. I'd have never thought of it on my own, that's for sure.

  3. I've seen where toothpaste does a good job, too.

    1. I use toothpaste on my rings too. I was also told to use toothpaste on the whites of my tennis shoes to keep them looking bright.

    1. I tried to go natural last beach vacation. It was a total fail. I think they thought I was bathing in marinade for them.

  5. Thanks for the great tip! The headlights on my car get reeeeeally hazy and dulled. We've used a number of products on them, (and by "we," I mean "he"...) and at best, the slight improvement only lasts for a short time.

    1. I'd say this only last a short while too, but at $3.00 a can at Wal Mart, it can be a weekly fix.
