Happy Summer Feet

Summer can be rough on the tootsies. Personally, I love letting my feet run free during the warm weather.

The problem?

My feet don't always appreciate the freedom.

Too many hours spent in sandals and flip flops can cause my heels to dry out.

The solution for me isn't tennis shoes- the solution is a bit more care spent on my feet.

Once a week, I take some time to pamper my feet.

First, soak your feet in some warm, soapy water. Dry them off and then rub them down with a sugar rub (salt also works) made by mixing a tablespoon of vegetable or olive oil with a quarter cup of sugar (or salt) and rub into feet, massaging them well.

Wash feet again, scrubbing the heel well with a wash cloth to fully exfoliate. Pat your feet dry, then apply a generous amount of lotion (I like to use a medicated foot lotion), and then pull on a pair of clean socks until the moisturizer is absorbed.

Any lotion works, but a good, medicated foot lotion with soften them overnight.

Avon's Footworks is my personal favorite. But there are many to choose from. Here's a link to blog that tested many on the market.

$7.50 from Avon

*If flip flops get your feet down, check out the selection of orthopedic sandals and flip flops from Vionics They have a large selection of shoes that are not only pretty, but can be worn without the usual foot and hip pain my post-40 body suffers from when I wear bad shoes.

  1. My foot nurse really condemns flip flops as being bad for your feet. I wear them as slippers in the morning, but only then. I was going to recommend Avon Foot works products. I use them all the time. Wonderful. And my foot nurse approves too. They even make a foot cream specifically for diabetics.

    1. I love flip flops, and your nurse is right- they are horrible for your feet. And your hips. But I still love them. The Vionics are very comfortable and don't cause the pain regular ones do.

I've always loved Avon. Good to hear they have something special for diabetics- foot care is so very important for you!

  2. Hi Elizabeth - foot massages, foot care - always good ... I change my shoes all the time ... and love the ideas you've put forward here ... enjoy your summer - cheers Hilary

    1. My kids used to get shin splints when they ran. I read that they were caused by worn out shoes. I started replacing them when they started to look worn and that solved the problem.

  3. I'm a strong believer in foot-pampering, but I've never tried that Avon product. Luckily, I know a gal who sells Avon, so I'll have to order some and give it a whirl.

    1. The older I get, the more I appreciate pain free feet. They deserve the pampering!!

Thanks for stopping by the House!
