I actually fell into the 5-8 year trend twice - I had a townhouse in Lexington for 5 years before moving here and then I had my house here for 5 years before I got engaged and sold it. I was lucky the first time - the second time the market had tanked and I sold it for less than I paid for it. Then got hit with repair costs...
